Wood Privacy Fence Installation

The classic way to close in a yard. Solid boards, a natural look, and a fence built to handle southern Indiana weather.

What a wood privacy fence is

A wood privacy fence uses solid boards set edge to edge with no gaps, so it blocks sightlines and gives a yard a real sense of enclosure. We build ours from quality lumber chosen for Indiana weather, with posts set deep in concrete and the line built square.

Styles vary, from a straight board-on-board look to shadowbox. We go over board style and height with you at the estimate so the fence suits your home.

Pros and cons

The upsides are privacy, a warm natural look, and a lower upfront cost than vinyl. You can leave the wood natural or stain and seal it the color you want, and the color can be changed later.

The tradeoff is upkeep. Wood needs occasional staining or sealing to keep its look and to slow weathering, and boards can move as they dry or get wet. If you want a fence you never have to think about, vinyl is the low-maintenance alternative.

Where it fits best

Wood privacy suits backyards where you want privacy from neighbors, a windbreak, or a safe, contained space for kids and pets. It also works well when you want a gate that matches the fence, which we plan into the layout from the start.

For open ground that needs to hold livestock rather than provide privacy, see our farm and agricultural fencing.

Two choices matter most: height and style. Taller fences give more screening, and the board layout changes both the look and how the fence handles wind.

Upkeep and getting an estimate

Plan on checking the fence every so often and re-staining or sealing it as needed. Keeping plants and soil from sitting against the boards helps too.

Call, text, or send the estimate form and Brad will reach out to hear what you want. We then talk through height, board style, gates, and any slope or trees along the line and give you a clear quote. Estimates are free and there is no obligation. Most residential fences are installed in one to three days once we start; larger jobs, difficult terrain, or weather can add time, and we give you a realistic timeline with your estimate.

Common questions

How long does a wood privacy fence last?

Done right, with posts set deep and quality lumber, a wood fence can last for decades. Occasional staining or sealing helps it get there.

Does wood cost less than vinyl?

Wood generally costs less upfront than vinyl. The right number depends on height, length, and the ground, so we price it once we talk through the project.

Can I add a gate?

Yes. We plan walk gates and wider openings into the layout and go over placement with you at the estimate.
